South African, US soldiers to stage humanitarian exercise
PRETORIA (AFP) Jul 01, 2004
US and South African soldiers will take part in a medical exercise beginning at the weekend to practise an emergency plan for a humanitarian crisis, the US embassy said in a statement Thursday.

The 16-day drill, dubbed Exercise Medflag, will take place in South Africa's northern Limpopo province and will involve more than 500 soldiers from South Africa and the US defence force's European Command, which is based in Germany and is responsible for the European and African regions.

It will take place from Saturday to July 19 and will involve the simulation of a flood to stage a humanitarian crisis scenario with mass casualties.
