TIRANA (AFP) Sep 16, 2004
An Albanian military aircraft full of ammunition exploded Thursday after taking off from an airport northeast of the capital Tirana, Transport Minister Spartak Poci said.

The aircraft, a MIG 21, exploded in the air around 9:00 am (0700 GMT) right after taking off from Rinas airport, some 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Tirana, Poci said.

The pilot was killed, while rescuers were unable to approach the site of the accident as more explosions were going on, the minister added.
