Radioactive package found at Moscow's central post office MOSCOW (AFP) Aug 02, 2005 A highly radioactive package found at Moscow's central post office Tuesday forced the evacuation of the building, the ministry for emergency situations said.
The package, which was found to contain 30 compasses painted with radium 226, gave off radioactivity 20 times higher than background level, according to the Radon nuclear center where tests were carried out.
No contamination was found in the post office itself, and workers were later allowed to return, the RIA-Novosti agency said.
