North Korean nuclear talks resume in Beijing
BEIJING (AFP) Sep 13, 2005
Six-party talks aimed at persuading North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons programs resumed in Beijing Tuesday after a five-week break, Japanese officials said.

A meeting of the chief delegates from South Korea, North Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States began at 5.40 pm (0940 GMT).

"They have started talking," said the Japanese official.

The talks are the second phase of a fourth round of negotiations that adjourned after nearly two weeks on August 7 after failing to find sufficient common ground.

Earlier Tuesday, North Korea vowed that it would not bow to US demands to abandon nuclear programs for peaceful purposes.
