Belgian police temporarily evacuated residents living near NATO's Brussels headquarters overnight due to a false bomb alert, an emergency services spokesman said Sunday. About 40 people were ordered out of their homes around midnight after a suspect package was seen in a parked car. An army bomb disposal squad was called in, but no explosives were found. The US-dominated North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), whose sprawling headquarters are in a Brussels suburb, is seen as a terrorist target notably due to its new operations in recent years in Afghanistan and Iraq.
