France eyes more renewable energy, less nuclear dependence
PARIS, July 10 (AFP) Jul 10, 2006
France plans to reduce the proportion of its electricity generated using nuclear power to 73 percent by 2015, while increasing the contribution from renewable energy sources, Junior Industry Minister Francois Loos said on Monday.

In 2005, 78 percent of electricity in France was generated by nuclear power stations with 12 percent from renewable sources.

Presenting an energy investment plan for 2006-2015, Loos said that France would look for greater contributions from wind and biomass over the next decade.

Biomass uses animal and organic waste to generate power.
