L-3 Awarded $82 Million Delivery Order From U.S. Army For Phoenix SATCOM Terminal

New York NY (SPX) Sep 20, 2005
L-3 Communications has announced that its Communication Systems-West division (L-3 CS-West) has been awarded an $82 million contract modification from U.S. Army Communication- Electronics Life Cycle Management Command, Acquisition Center, Fort Monmouth, NJ for the production of its quad-band, High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV)-mounted, 2.4 meter Phoenix SATCOM terminal (Phoenix).

The project manager for this initiative is PM Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T).

The Phoenix is a rapid-deployable, vehicle-mounted terminal capable of operating in any one of four configurable radio frequency (RF) bands (i.e., C, X, Ku, and Ka). The system has been proven through a full qualification testing program, demonstrating its capability in all types of environmental conditions.

In addition, the terminal has successfully completed both Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and Army Strategic Command (ARSTRAT) certification testing, allowing it to operate over X- and Ka-Band satellites. The Phoenix is the first terminal to successfully complete pre-launch Ka-Band certification testing.

In addition to the terminals, the contract award includes delivery of spare equipment, Quad-Band Satellite Emulators and training.

"We are very proud to have produced the first fully certified Quad Band 2.4 meter SATCOM terminal that our customers depend on in-theater. Our engineering team and our suppliers have worked hard to solve this complex communications problem for our nation's military," said Curtis Brunson, president and general manager of L-3 CS-West.
