Consortium to terminate North Korean nuclear power reactor project

by Staff Writers New York (AFP) May 31, 2006 An energy consortium that was charged with carrying out the construction of lightwater nuclear power reactors to entice North Korea to end its atomic weapons drive formally decided Wednesday to terminate the project.
"Effective May 31, 2006, KEDOs Executive Board formally decided to terminate the light-water reactor (LWR) project," the New York-based Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) said in a statement.
