GenDyn to supply U.S. Air Force with new cryptographic module![]() GenDyn completes additional AJAX live-firing testing Millbrook Proving Ground, England (UPI) Sep 7, 2016 - General Dynamics Land Systems-UK successfully completed additional AJAX armored vehicle live firing testing over the summer, the company said Wednesday. The testing of the British army's new armored fighting vehicle took place between July and August at a range in West Wales, the company said in a statement. It involved the turreted AJAX variant and the ARES variant and focused on generating specific data and evidence to support manned firing trials slated for early 2017. The AJAX testing involved firing the 40mm cannon, the mounted 7.62mm machine gun and smoke grenades. The ARES variant tested involved firing the Kongsberg PROTECTOR remote weapon system, which included firing the general purpose machine gun, heavy machine gun, grenade machine guns and smoke grenades. The AJAX program is the British army's largest single armored vehicle order in more than 30 years, GenDyn said. The first British Army squadron will be equipped with the AJAX by mid-2019, with brigades ready to deploy by the end of 2020.

General Dynamics Mission Systems will supply an updated Air Identification Friend or Foe system for the U.S. Air Force, the company announced Wednesday.
The KIV-78 Combined Interrogator/Transponder Applique will enable ships, ground forces and other aircraft to precisely identify friendly aircraft operating in a crowded tactical airspace, GenDyn said in a statement.
Deliveries of the KIV-78 are slated to begin in February.
The U.S. National Security Agency certified the refreshed KIV-78 in March.
The system reduces power consumption and supports platform functions like maintaining flight data from take-off to landing.
The updated module provides full encryption of friend or foe inquiries and replies, enabling aircraft to transmit their identity securely while allowing pilots to promptly identify possible threats beyond visible range, GenDyn said.
The KIV-78 is part of a product family that offers high-speed processing, resulting in faster data transfer and reduced potential for Identification Friend or Foe data exploitation by adversaries.
The Air Force awarded GenDyn an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for the modules in 2010.
