by Staff Writers Washington (AFP) April 16, 2014 A US guided missile destroyer is headed back to its home port in Florida after an engine room fire that caused damage but no injuries, the Navy said Wednesday. The USS Hue City, which is still operating under its own power, had at first continued on its planned course across the Atlantic Ocean from Florida despite the blaze, but it will now head home. "The Hue City will be returning to Mayport," a US Navy official told AFP. The official did not give details about the extent of the damage caused by the blaze, or say whether the ship would be out of service for extensive repairs. Flames erupted Monday in one of the USS Hue City's gas turbine generators, and later spread to other decks of the ship, the Pentagon said. The fire broke out when the ship was about 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) northeast of Bermuda. The ship -- which has about 330 personnel on board -- was headed for a deployment in the "Sixth Fleet area of responsibility" -- which covers the western Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
