TeraForce To Supply Computing Elements For New UAV Application
Richardson TX (SPX) Aug 03, 2004
TeraForce Technology Corporation Monday announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, DNA Computing Solutions, Inc., has been selected to supply high density versions of its VQG4 product to a domestic prime defense contractor for use in airborne intelligence gathering applications on an advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform.

It is anticipated that this program will require delivery of products from DNA Computing Solutions over a multiple year period as this new capability is deployed throughout the fleet of host UAVs for use in missions related to defense and homeland security.

This design win signals the company's continuing involvement in providing complex, high density computing solutions for sophisticated airborne applications and marks the first utilization of the VQG4 product line in a spray-cooled environment.

As the focus on unmanned aircraft intensifies in the defense arena, the desire to fly missions encompassing a wide range of reconnaissance and weapons deployment capabilities extends across a variety of airborne platforms.

The UAV is widely considered to be one of the most important emerging systems over the past few years in the defense arsenal. DNA Computing Solutions' quad processor VQG4 product has proven to offer the features, performance and reliability demanded by these kinds of mission critical applications.

"We are delighted to be working with this major customer on such an important and high profile program," stated Dr. R. Eugene Helms, president and CEO of DNA Computing Solutions.

"This is an application area that is rapidly expanding. As it continues to garner significant attention and funding in the defense industry, companies are aggressively pursuing development of UAVs for everything from intelligence gathering to aerial attacks."

"The breadth of interest in this area is highlighted by the prominence of these systems at the Farnborough International aerospace trade show held recently in the United Kingdom."

"The high degree of success demonstrated by UAVs during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has made them the darlings of the defense industry. Military and intelligence organizations around the world are funneling money towards these systems."

"The array of application concepts being discussed is staggering. It is reported that about five billion dollars in annual UAV sales is expected by the end of the decade. We believe that our products are extremely well suited to address the kinds of applications being sought for these airborne platforms."
