ATK Receives M$7.8 Contract For Advanced Countermeasure Flares
Minneapolis MN (SPX) Aug 09, 2004
ATK has received a $7.8 million contract to produce M212 countermeasure flares for the U.S. Army's Advanced Infrared Countermeasure Munitions program (AIRCMM).

AIRCMM is designed to protect rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft from threats posed by enhanced surface-to-air infrared weapons systems. ATK Thiokol will produce the flares over a five-year period at its manufacturing facility at Promontory, Utah.

The M212 flare is a specialized, multi-spectral, countermeasure device designed for use in combination with other flares on vulnerable, low and slow- flying aircraft, such as helicopters and fixed-wing transport/cargo aircraft.

The M212 can be loaded in ALE-47 flare dispensers already in place on U.S. Army and Air Force aircraft.
