ViaSat Receives National Security Agency Certification for KG-250 IP Network Encryptor
Carlsbad CA (SPX) Aug 19, 2004
ViaSat has received certification from the National Security Agency (NSA) for its KG-250 IP Network Encryptor product for use on classified US government communication networks. The KG-250 is the first product in ViaSat's new line of AltaSec security products that feature full compliance with the High Assurance Internet Protocol Interoperability Specification (HAIPIS).

The AltaSec family includes a full line of HAIPIS products that are under development to fulfill the US government's high assurance network encryption needs.

HAIPIS compliant network encryptors are expected to be essential components for the DoD's realization of the Global Information Grid (GIG), a secure network that will provide the warfighter with information when and where it is needed, and are the cornerstone of the transformational communications initiative. KG-250 product deliveries began the first week of July, immediately after certification was received.

The KG-250, designed to be more portable and less expensive to operate than current Type-1 encryptors, is capable of full duplex 100 Megabit Ethernet IP traffic. By incorporating the latest networking features, this equipment brings easy-to-use, full mesh network operation to the classified user in an intuitively managed package.

Also, while designed to perform in strategic applications, the KG-250 gives the tactical user on the move the advantage of a very portable, quick-setup, high-throughput node on any IP-capable medium.

The KG-250 embodies the first implementation of ViaSat's Programmable, Scalable Information Assurance Model (PSIAM). The PSIAM is an information security technology foundation intended to meet the challenges of the NSA Crypto Modernization initiative, and other transformation initiatives, by virtue of its programmability and suitability for high-speed networking.

The KG-250 was certified under the National Security Agency Commercial COMSEC Endorsement Program, a program by which the NSA monitors development, performs security evaluations, and certifies an Information Assurance product conceived and developed with private funding.
