E&S EPX-50 Ready For Training For US Army Close Combat Tactical Trainer Program
Salt Lake City UT (SPX) Sep 28, 2004
Evans & Sutherland Computer announced Thursday that the first 37 Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT) modules configured with EPX-50 visual systems have been declared ready for training (RFT) on schedule and turned over to Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), the government-contracted training provider, to begin training U.S. Army forces in Europe.

The CCTT Visual Upgrade Program contract was awarded to E&S on Jan. 26 of this year and required E&S to complete the retrofit and qualification of the first 37 training modules in less than eight months.

Completion of this program milestone required E&S to install all system software, convert two existing SEDRIS training databases, and begin production of the new system.

CCTT program production requirements call for more than 1,000 PCs configured with E&S' EPX software; 350 of them were used for the European installation.

"This first phase of the CCTT upgrade program was extremely demanding," said E&S Simulation Systems General Manager Nick Gibbs.

"It represented a challenge for us since EPX-50 is a new product, and this is its first major deployment. By meeting this milestone on time, we have demonstrated that our EPX products deliver as promised."

The CCTT Visual Upgrade Program was awarded through PEO-STRI's Omnibus contract, referred to as STOC. The CCTT program has fielded nearly 450 simulators worldwide to provide tactical training for combined-arms battlefield situations for heavy forces (heavy armor, fighting vehicles and cavalry units).
