Elisra Group Selected To Provide Protection Systems For Passenger Aircraft
Bnei Brak, Israel (SPX) Oct 13, 2004
The LORICA , a specially adapted commercial version of the Elisra Group's PAWS family InfraRed (IR) Missile Warning System already supplied to the Israel Air Force, has been selected to protect passenger aircraft.

This unique IR Missile Warning System is the fundamental element of a complete protection suite. Market potential for LORICA systems, in the coming years, is estimated at several hundred million dollars.

"Protection depends on advance warning," emphasizes Danny Biran, Chairman and CEO of the Elisra Group. "The IR-technology Missile Warning System that we have developed, and are supplying, incorporates the decades of experience our Group has accumulated as an electronic warfare systems house.

This civil aviation project is an extension of our position as the supplier of Missile Warning Systems for Israel Air Force F16I fighters and combat helicopters.

With a host of superior features, Elisra Group IR Missile Warning Systems are strong growth engines - providing us with competitive opportunities, as threats to aircraft increase, and international carriers are hard pressed to find effective means of ensuring passenger safety."

The Group's advanced Missile Warning System is part of a long-term solution that will provide greater safety in the skies to airborne civilian passengers throughout the world.

"The operational demand for optimum protection ofr commercial airliners was crystallized in 2002, when terrorists carrying shoulder-launched missiles tried to "down" an Israeli commercial carrier as it took off from an airport in Kenya," says Edgar Maimon, VP of Business Development.

"By rapidly and efficiently adapting the technology which is the core of our proven performance military missile warning systems for fighters and helicopters, we incorporated extensive experience into a specific solution for passenger aircraft."

"Market potential is vast. We expect hundreds of systems to be sold in the next few years, in light of the number of passengers traveling each year on international and domestic carriers, along with the growing threat of global terrorism."

"LORICA will integrate with countermeasures from two other Israeli defense leaders - Rafael and Elbit Systems - to provide a total electro-optic solution" says Motti Peleg, VP and Manager of the InfraRed Division.
