MILPLEX
Homeland Security With Plextek Radar
Cambridge, England (SPX) Oct 20, 2004
Plextek will show a portable engineering model of its BLightER 200 Series radar at the AUSA exhibition in Washington, 25-27 October 2004.

BLightER is a man-portable, lightweight, battery-powered radar system that can detect moving targets from 20 m to 5 km within its electronically scanned surveillance area. It is therefore ideally suited to homeland security applications, including area intrusion monitoring and border surveillance. Each radar uses a wireless network with the potential to link to a neighbouring radar, sensors and a command and control system.

The 200 Series radar features a lightweight, low cost antenna that offers electronic scanning over an angle of 80(degree). The radar on show can demonstrate detection of moving objects, including people, on a wireless connected ruggedised laptop computer.

An alternative antenna structure offering greater detection ranges and wider electronic scanning angles will be incorporated into the 400 Series BLightER. Production prototypes of both the 200 and 400 Series are currently being developed and will be available from the second quarter of 2005 onwards.
