V-ONE Delivers Security Appliances to U.S. Army
Germantown MD (SPX) Nov 02, 2004
V-ONE Corporation has announced the delivery of 80 SmartGuard( security appliances to the U.S. Army. The appliances will enable rapid deployment of secure mobile applications using Microsoft Windows powered Pocket PC and Windows CE based devices, barcoders, and other RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) devices.

V-ONE's SmartGuard( application layer SSL VPN appliances and intelligent clients allow mobile applications to communicate end-to-end with the full security of a NIST-certified FIPS 140 VPN, a requirement for DOD wireless communication applications.

The Army Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) Office chose V-ONE products after extensive evaluation. AIT is responsible for acquiring technologies that enable mobile applications such as logistics and asset management for a variety of DOD programs.

"Flexibility is critical when securing mobile applications. The Army requires support for a broad range of mobile user devices and V-ONE technology delivers that support over both wireless and wired networks," said Margaret E. Grayson, president and CEO of V-ONE Corporation.

The AIT Product Management Office provides the Department of Defense and other selected non-DOD agencies with centralized product procurement and management services to support Automatic Identification Technology.

Individual user's data and information is integrated with DOD-wide systems, technologies, software and encoding formats as well as with international commercial application and users.

The key objectives of the AIT program are to provide 1) a common, integrated structure for automatic collection, storage, retrieval, processing, transmission, and receipt of data, 2) standardization and interoperability among Government users of AIT equipment, and 3) flexible systems and equipment that grow in size and capability, adapting to the needs of the Government.
