DRS Technologies Receives New Orders For Advanced Military Communications Products
Parsippany NJ (SPX) Nov 17, 2004
DRS Technologies announced Monday that it has received new orders to provide tactical data link and high-frequency (HF) data communications systems for U.S. and allied military applications.

These products will be installed on various ship, air and land-based platforms and will provide real-time information exchange among commanders and ground, sea and air forces to support integrated battle space operations.

The contracts, with a combined value of $11.7 million, were awarded to DRS by U.S. government, international military and commercial customers.

For these orders, DRS will provide newly designed Data Link Processors, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)-based AN/USQ-125 and AN/USQ-130 Link 11 Data Terminal Sets, Common Shipboard Data Terminal Sets (CSDTS), Link 22 Adjunct Processors and signal processor controllers, and other HF data communications equipment.

Products associated with these awards enhance the ease of vertical integration with the embedment of data link encryption and address the need to provide the warrior with Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity on the battlefield.

Work for these contracts will be accomplished by the company's DRS Communications Company unit in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania.

"These new contracts reinforce our world leadership position in the supply of Link 11 and Link 22 advanced communications technology solutions and in the design and manufacture of secure tactical communications systems," said Steven T. Schorer, president of DRS's C4I Group.

"DRS is a critical supplier of tactical communication links for the delivery of mission-critical information to weapon platforms. Our technology is playing an increasingly important role in communications initiatives considered vital to military platform interoperability."

"As a leading supplier of Link 11 solutions for more than 20 years, DRS is prepared to meet the growing demand for fourth generation Link 11 equipment, both at home and abroad, while supporting the migration to Link 22 interoperability."

DRS's systems are considered the next generation for secure voice and data communications, as well as for advanced digital communications networks. The company's systems are software-upgradeable for ease of future enhancements to products already in the field.

DRS-produced AN/USQ-125, AN/USQ-130 and Common Shipboard Data Terminal Sets (CSDTS) are programmable devices within a Link 11 Tactical Data Information Link (TADIL-A) that provide all required modem and network control functions in a NATO-approved Link 11 system.

The latest design in a line of data link processing and embedded encryption devices for Link 11, TADIL-A will provide an option to host Link 22 message application software.
