ViaSat Linkway VSATs Provide Networking For DataPath Mobile MilCom Systems

ViaSat is supplying high-performance Linkway satellite communications networking equipment to DataPath for mobile military communications.

DataPath is a global telecommunications systems integrator specializing in satellite earth terminals and networks. The value of the DataPath contracts with ViaSat is approximately $7 million.

DataPath is incorporating ViaSat Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) equipment into the DataPath ET Model 3000 Portable for battlefield communications, a compact, trailer-based satellite telecommunications earth terminal that provides sustained and reliable telecommunications in the field.

Incorporating ViaSat products into DataPath 3000 provides a mesh networking product that enables direct connections between remote locations without a central hub. The U.S. military uses the DataPath 3000 to connect to the Joint Network Node (JNN) initiative.

The JNN takes advantage of up-to-date commercial satellites and Internet technology to increase bandwidth and enhance the reliability and agility of military communications.

The JNN routes secure communications through commercial satellites and replaces circuit-switched voice with more efficient Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Linkway VSATs also include ViaSat Dynamic Bandwidth Resource Allocation technology that cuts satellite bandwidth costs through automatic, adaptive assignment and advanced coding. Quality of Service (QoS) features enable customers to establish priorities for different types of IP services.

Army Approves General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin System Design For WIN-T

General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin have announced that they had held the U.S. Army's preliminary design review (PDR) on the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) program, the Army's next-generation battlefield communications network.
