BAE Systems showcases advanced M-Code Increment 2 GNSS technology

BAE Systems (LON:BA) recently demonstrated successful tracking of M-Code signals using its Increment 2 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver, powered by the company's Next-Generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). This development marks a major advancement under the Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) Increment (Inc) 2 Miniature Serial Interface (MSI) program, which BAE Systems has pursued since receiving a $247 million contract from the U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command in 2020.

"This development milestone validates that we have the core of our next-generation GNSS user equipment technology in place," said Luke Bishop, director of Navigation and Sensor Systems at BAE Systems. "This capability is foundational to powering future generations of assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) products for the U.S. and its allies."

The Increment 2 MSI program represents a significant enhancement in signal processing capabilities, enabling support for multiple satellite networks and delivering a compact receiver that fits applications where low size, weight, and power are critical. These advancements allow the technology to be integrated across a broad range of platforms, including portable, battery-operated devices.

BAE Systems' solution builds on the flexibility of its Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) and M-Code Increment 1 products, offering features like field reprogramming and adaptive software configurations to meet varied mission requirements. This adaptability supports mission resiliency and helps keep pace with evolving security challenges.

The company's M-Code GPS and anti-jam product line delivers reliable navigation and guidance solutions for a variety of systems, from airborne platforms and precision munitions to handheld devices and embedded applications. The Increment 2 MSI program is being developed at BAE Systems' advanced facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where the team continues to drive forward this next-generation capability.
