Spacesail Constellation, a Chinese commercial low-orbit satellite network, has successfully completed its inaugural network connection test, demonstrating the system's capability to support high-speed broadband services for maritime applications.

The test, conducted by Shanghai Spacesail Technologies Co., Ltd., assessed the ability of the satellite broadband network to deliver internet connectivity to a cruise liner. During the trial, the vessel established a link with China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited's cloud management platform while navigating near the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

This trial confirmed that the constellation could provide reliable, high-speed internet services to maritime vessels, including cruise liners. Shanghai Spacesail Technologies noted that the trial showcased the constellation's potential to enhance communication quality for maritime users.

In the process, the digital terminal aboard the cruise liner was able to connect seamlessly with the Spacesail Constellation ground commercial terminal. This achievement underscores the commercial viability and operational readiness of this extensive domestic low-orbit internet network.

Since its launch, the Spacesail Constellation project has deployed three batches of satellites, totaling 54 networking units. The initial group of satellites was successfully launched on Aug 6, 2024, marking the beginning of this ambitious project.
