Frontgrade Gaisler has unveiled its latest radiation-hardened microcontroller, the GR716B, offering a leap forward in energy-efficient and multifunctional space-grade technology. Building on the GR716A, the GR716B is designed to meet the growing demands of increasingly complex and ambitious space missions by ensuring reliable performance across diverse operational scenarios.

The GR716B is crafted as a versatile solution for satellite supervision, monitoring, and control. Its adaptability stems from a broad array of standard interfaces, advanced architectural features, and integrated analog functions, allowing seamless integration into a variety of space systems.

Sandi Habinc, General Manager at Frontgrade Gaisler, said, "With the GR716B, we are excited to offer a solution that reflects the growing ambitions of the space industry. The GR716B engineering models are now being made available to alpha customers for integration into new missions."

Combining proven technology with innovative features, the GR716B addresses key industry challenges such as minimizing power consumption and optimizing onboard resources. To further simplify system design, Frontgrade Gaisler plans to release the GR716B System-in-Package (SiP), which integrates the microcontroller with non-volatile memory.

The GR716B's development was supported by the European Space Agency's (ESA) Core Competitiveness programme under the Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems programme and ESA's Connectivity and Secure Communications directorate. The Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) also contributed to the project, highlighting an ongoing commitment to advancing space-grade technology.

Domenico Mignolo, ESA Acting Head of Technology and Products Division, commented, "We are glad to support Frontgrade Gaisler through our Core Competitiveness programme. By supporting the development of versatile space-grade microcontrollers, ESA aims to bring innovation in satellite communications in order to strengthen industrial competitiveness."
