General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. has received an $8.8 million U.S. Air Force contract for Predator drone work.

The deal covers Block 30 ground control station kit upgrades and Predator mission aircrew training system Delta kits.

Work will be performed in California and is expected to be completed by March 2018.

The award is the result of a sole-source acquisition.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is the contracting activity.

The MQ-1B Predator is an armed, multi-mission, medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial system used primarily as an intelligence-collection asset.

Its significant loiter time, wide-range sensors, multi-mode communications suite and precision weapons offer unique ability to perform strike, coordination and reconnaissance against various targets.
