Kaman announces $54 million in new bomb fuze orders

Kaman Corporation announced it has received three new orders for the production and delivery of its Joint Programmable Fuzes.

Kaman's announced orders have a combined value of roughly $54 million, with the first award being an additional $20.8 million order on an existing U.S. Air Force contract. The other two are direct commercial sale orders with a combined value of $33.2 million. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2016 and 2017.

"We believe the JPF is the most reliable bomb fuze in the arsenal of the U.S. military and its allies. No other existing bomb fuze has the functionality or provides the operational flexibility of the JPF, and Kaman is the only source of the product," Kaman Aerospace Group president Greg Steiner said in a statement.

The Joint Programmable Bomb Fuze, also known as JPF, is a multi-function hard and soft target fuzing system allowing the settings of a weapon to be programmed on the wing of an aircraft in flight. The fuze is used on a variety of platforms including the U.S. Air Force's F-15, F-16, F-22, A-10, B-1, B-2, and B-52 aircraft.

Steiner added the sales push the JPF's program backlog to a record high of almost $250 million.

"Given our backlog and strong worldwide demand for the fuze we have undertaken a significant expansion of our JPF production capacity in 2016 and beyond," Steiner added.
