Orlando FL (SPX) Dec 05, 2007 L-3 Coleman Aerospace announced that it has been awarded a Task Order from the U.S. Air Force for a Short Range Air Launch Target (SRALT). Coleman Aerospace will provide one launch vehicle as well as mission management services in support of the Arrow System Improvement Program. The award is being made under the Sounding Rockets Program 2 (SRP-2), which is managed by the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), Space Development and Test Wing. The contract will be performed over a 20-month period. L-3 Coleman Aerospace will design, build and test the SRALT at its facility in Orlando, Florida. SRALT was developed by L-3 as a target for realistic testing of the Missile Defense Agency's Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The advantage of SRALT is that it uses air launch as a method to relieve the test constraints imposed by fixed ground launch sites. Coleman Aerospace has been 100% successful in previous SRALT launches for the Arrow program. "We are extremely pleased that SMC selected us to support this mission for the Missile Defense Agency," said Lou Deeter, President of L-3 Coleman Aerospace. "We look forward to continuing our successful relationship with the Arrow program."
