The U.S. Navy awarded a $24.1 million contract modification to Lockheed Martin for its F-35-in-a-box flight simulator program.

The contract will pay for Phase II delivery of the verification simulation system's software, software fees, development, integration and support, the Defense Department announced on Tuesday.

Lockheed last year received a $50.8 million modification on the same contract for development, integration and support of the F-35-in-a-box, or VSim, system.

Lockheed will work under the terms of the new contract in Forth Worth, Texas, and Marietta, Ga., between now and September.

The Defense Department has obligated about $20.4 million to Lockheed at the time of the award, with funds coming from Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force accounts.
