NATO to procure U.S. munitions for members![]() Poland orders self-propelled howitzers Washington (UPI) Dec 19, 2016 - The Polish military is to acquire 96 self-propelled howitzers under a $1.1 billion contract with local company Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. The self-propelled howitzer, based on a South Korean design, is a 155mm weapon system and will be produced in Poland. The Polish news site Defense 24 reports the contract was awarded almost exactly two years after a cooperative agreement was concluded by Poland's HSW in South Korea for the acquisition from Hanwha Techwin of the rights to manufacture, "Polonize," develop and re-export a new chassis for the 155mm "Krab" system. A gradual process will eventually result in the chassis and hull being completely built in Poland, except for the engines, automatic transmissions and some other components. Poland had previously ordered two dozen of the weapon systems.

NATO has signed an agreement with the United States to acquire precision-guided munitions for eight member countries.
The countries are Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Spain, NATO said.
Delivery of the initial NATO order of the air-to-ground munitions will take place between 2017 and 2019 and will include GBU 12 Paveway bombs and Paveway II bomb kits that convert freefall bombs into precision-guided weapons.
A subsequent order is expected to be placed with the U.S. Defense and Security Cooperation Agency next year by NATO's Support and Procurement Agency under a framework accord intended as a cost-effective vehicle to meet members' air-to-ground PGM requirements.
Poland's PGM needs are expected to be included.
