Raytheon wins Griffin A block missile contract for U.S. Air Force

Raytheon has received a $25 million contract to provide Griffin A Block/III missiles for the U.S. Air Force.

The contract was a result of a sole-source acquisition, with all funds payed at the time of the award. Work will be performed at the company's facility in Tucson, Ariz.

The U.S. Department of Defense expects the work to be complete by Dec. 1, 2017. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center in Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. is listed as the contracting activity.

Raytheon's Griffin missile system is a multi-purpose weapon that can be integrated with air and sea platforms. The Griffin A variant, covered under Raytheon's latest contract with the U.S. Air Force, is an aft-eject missile that can be deployed from multiple aircraft including the C-130 airlifter.

The company says their 43-inch-long weapon weighs 34 pounds, and is ideal for low-collateral impacts with a 13-pound warhead. Raytheon began producing the missile in 2008.
