Russia has created a control system on its nuclear facilities that has brought the main risks of radiation ecological disasters to nil, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Monday.
"Thanks to overall efforts, first and foremost the Russian state corporation Rosatom, and other bodies, a balanced system of control on nuclear facilities was created, and we'll hope that this has practically brought the main risks of radiation ecological disasters to nil," Medvedev said.
According to Rosatom, nuclear and radiation safety is seen as the corporation's priority. Its safety policy is designed to reduce nuclear risks and industrial hazards, and protect local communities and the environment during construction, operation and dismantlement of nuclear facilities, focusing on accident-free operation of nuclear power plants and other potentially hazardous nuclear facilities.
In 2014, at the facilities operated by Rosatom there were no events rated level two or above on the International Nuclear Events Scale.
Issue of nuclear safety came under the spotlight after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster occurred on March 11, 2011 in Japan.
