Shenzhou-18 Crew Tests Fire Alarms and Conducts Medical Procedures in Space

Sydney, Australia (SPX) Aug 09, 2024
The crew aboard China's Shenzhou-18 spacecraft recently conducted a critical fire alarm test to assess the functionality of the station's fire detection systems across its three modules.

In video footage released by the China Manned Space Agency, the three taikonauts were shown utilizing specialized equipment to activate the station's temperature and smoke sensors. These sensors successfully triggered alarms, illuminating various instruments and warning systems.

In addition to the safety procedures, the crew also carried out blood sampling activities. Routine blood tests were performed in orbit, with some samples being stored at low temperatures for transportation back to Earth after the mission for further analysis.

The crew underwent comprehensive medical evaluations, including checks of blood pressure, heart rate, and lung function, as confirmed by the space agency.

Since their launch in late April, the Shenzhou-18 team has completed more than half of their planned six-month mission. During this time, they have executed two spacewalks and conducted a series of scientific experiments while in orbit.
