The scope of the agreement encompasses a total of nine systems, with each system comprising three unmanned aerial vehicles and a ground control station. Additionally, the contract also includes the provision of two simulators, which will be instrumental in training the Spanish Armed Forces.
Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Military Air Systems at Airbus Defence and Space, underscored the significance of this collaboration, stating, "This new technological milestone in the tactical UAS segment together with the Spanish Ministry of Defence, will reinforce national sovereignty. SIRTAP will be fully developed in Spain, integrating national capabilities. However, thanks to its versatility and the use of ITAR-free components, we also expect it to play a key role on the international market."
Designed to perform advanced surveillance, intelligence, and reconnaissance missions over both land and sea, SIRTAP exhibits an impressive payload capacity exceeding 150kg. The UAS boasts an extensive range of more than 2,000km and an endurance surpassing 20 hours, enabling high flexibility and reactivity. These features facilitate operations day and night, even in challenging environments. Notably, the system will be certified to fly in segregated airspace.
Looking ahead, SIRTAP is envisioned to operate in conjunction with other platforms, integrating into a system of systems. This development is poised to impart the national industry with critical experience and competencies in the field of Remote Carriers for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
This contract represents a strategic move for Airbus, with the first flight of the SIRTAP prototype scheduled for 2025 as it seeks to position SIRTAP as a versatile contender in the global UAS market.
