Cobra helicopter downed near Fallujah as US marines fire on town
FALLUJAH, Iraq (AFP) Jun 24, 2004 A US Cobra military helicopter was shot down near Fallujah Thursday morning, a marine officer said, as an AFP correspondent reported that helicopters were firing on the Sunni Muslim bastion.
"The helicopter was shot down by fire from the city," where fighting had erupted earlier in the morning, the officer said.
Marines were able to rescue the two pilots, who survived the crash on the perimeter of Fallujah, the officer said.
