Two US marines killed in Najaf province

 Two US marines have been killed in fighting in the province of Najaf, where bitter clashes have raged for two days between multinational troops and Shiite Muslim militiamen, the military said Friday.

The two 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit members were killed on Thursday, the military said in a statement, without giving further details.

The latest deaths bring to more than 680 the number of US troops killed in action in Iraq since last year's US-led invasion, based on Pentagon statistics.
