13 US marines wounded in mortar attack south of Baghdad
BAGHDAD (AFP) Nov 29, 2004
Thirteen US marines and two civilians were wounded Monday when mortar shells struck a military base south of Baghdad, a marine spokesman said.

The spokesman could not immediately reveal further details on the location or the circumstances of the attack.

On November 23, US marines backed by British and Iraqi forces, launched a vast sweep of the lawless area south of Baghdad which had become known as the "death triangle".

Two marines and at least three rebels were killed on Sunday in Operation Plymouth Rock, during which more than 180 suspected insurgents have been captured so far.
