. Russia to launch new nuclear, diesel submarines
MOSCOW (AFP) Mar 17, 2005
Russia will soon bring into service two new submarines, one nuclear and one diesel, the navy said Thursday.

The nuclear-powered Dmitry Donskoi is a fourth generation, strategic missile launching submarine of the 941 "Akula" class, a navy spokesperson told the ITAR-TASS news agency.

It was tested in June 2002 and will be put in service after testing of new armaments.

The second is the Saint Petersburg, a fourth generation diesel-electric torpedo submarine of the 677 "Lada" class.
