Two US service members taking part in an exercise in southern Morocco have gone missing, military authorities from both countries said on Sunday, adding that a search was underway.The "African Lion 2026" military exercise began late last month in the southern city of Agadir, bringing together nearly 5,000 military personnel from more than 40 countries until May 8.
"Two US service members taking part in African Lion 2026 went missing" on Saturday evening "near a cliff at Cap Draa in the Tan Tan area", Morocco's armed forces said on Facebook.
"The Moroccan, American and other participating forces in the exercise... immediately launched coordinated search and rescue operations involving ground, air and maritime assets," they added.
US Africa Command also announced that the service members were missing, saying: "The incident remains under investigation and the search is on-going."
