Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control has been awarded a $14 million cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost-plus-incentive-fee U.S. Navy contract for support of the SQQ-89 undersea warfare system.

The contract features options that will bring its value to $169.5 million if those options are exercised.

The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 is a surface ship undersea warfare combat system.

It has the ability to search, detect, classify, localize and track undersea contacts.

It can also engage and evade submarines, mine-like small objects and torpedo threats.

The contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy and the Japanese government under the Foreign Military Sales Program.

Work will be performed in Virginia, California, Japan, Maine, Florida and Spain, with an expected completion date of June 2017.

The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity.

This system presents an integrated picture of the acoustic tactical situation by receiving, combining and processing active and passive sonar sensor data from a variety of hull-mounted arrays, towed arrays when installed and sonobouys, a Navy fact sheet states.

It has been deployed on Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates, Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Ticonderoga-class cruisers.
