Canadian House of Commons calls for international court to try Saddam
OTTAWA (AFP) Mar 28, 2003
The Canadian House of Commons has called for "Saddam Hussein and all other Iraqi officials responsible for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes" to be tried by an international court.

Friday's edition of Hansard, the official record of Canadian parliamentary proceedings, reported that the motion was carried unanimously without debate.

In the past, Foreign Minister Bill Graham has pointed out that the Canadian government's preference is for such an international tribunal to be set up under the auspices of the United Nations Security Council.

Neither Iraq nor the United States is a signatory to the statute that led to the recent establishment of a permanent international tribunal to handle such cases.
