Representatives of Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Quaker and Methodist groups were among the detained, after they blocked the entrance to a federal government building, said Ron Rogers, a spokesman for the US immigration service whose office was inside.

All those arrested were released shortly afterwards.
