More explosions heard in northern Iraqi city of Mosul: Al-Jazeera
DOHA (AFP) Mar 29, 2003
More explosions were heard in and around northern Iraq's main city of Mosul late Saturday as coalition planes renewed their bombardment, the Al-Jazeera satellite network reported.

The latest airstrikes were heard at around 11.20 pm (2020 GMT) mainly on the northern outskirts of the city, a correspondent for the Qatar-based station said.

The city was also rocked by blasts at around 8.30 pm (1730 GMT) but the reporter was unable to tell which parts of the city had been struck.

Mosul, located 450 kilometers (280 miles) north of Baghdad, has been the target of airstrikes every day since March 21 by coalition forces in an effort to weaken its defenses and open a northern front against Iraqi forces.

More than 50 civilians were killed or wounded in a raid on Thursday in the city, according to Al-Jazeera.
