New coalition air strike on Iraqi positions on northern frontline
KALAK, Iraq (AFP) Mar 31, 2003
Iraqi positions near the front line between Kurdish rebels and government forces came under coalition air strike for a third straight night, an AFP correspondent reported early Monday.

Four explosions could heard shortly after midnight (2115 GMT Sunday) from the nearby rebel-held town of Kalak, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) east of the city of Mosul.

Five further explosions were heard at 8:00 am (0500 GMT), emanating from the same positions.

Following coalition bombing late last week, government forces pulled back towards the northern oil capital of Kirkuk, abandoning frontline positions near the rebel-held towns of Chamchamal and Qush Tapa east of here.
