US military counts 46 dead, seven prisoners of war
WASHINGTON (AFP) Apr 02, 2003
The United States has suffered 46 deaths so far in the nearly two week old war in Iraq, including 38 troops killed in combat, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

Six were killed in accidents and two were killed in a grenade attack by a fellow soldier, the spokesman said on condition of anonymity.

Seven troops have been taken as prisoners of war.

Fourteen troops were missing, as officials could not say whether they were dead or prisoners of war.

That figure is down from 15 after one of the missing, 19-year-old Army Private First Class Jessica Lynch, was rescued Tuesday.
