LOS ANGELES (AFP) Apr 02, 2003
Two US Marines of Hispanic origin who were killed in Iraq were posthumously awarded US citizenship, authorities announced Wednesday.

The two were permanent residents but not citizens of the United States.

Officials said Jose Gutierrez, 22, from Guatemala, and Jose Angel Garibay, 21, from Mexico were posthumously awarded US citizenship.

The two, who lived in California, were among the first US troops killed in the Iraq war.
