Heavy bombing heard on outskirts of Baghdad

 Another heavy bombing raid directed at the outskirts of Baghdad was under way early on Thursday morning, an AFP journalist in the Iraqi capital reported.

Explosions were heard across the city coming from the southern and south-eastern fringes of the capital, but there was no sound of anti-aircraft fire nor air raid sirens.

Several warplanes were seen flying over Baghdad but there were no reports of strikes on the centre of the city.
