US says Baghdad airport seized, Saddam's name removed
AS SALIYAH, Qatar (AFP) Apr 04, 2003
Saddam International Airport in Baghdad has been seized by coalition troops after overnight fighting and has now been re-named, US Central Command said here on Friday.

"The airport now has a new name, Baghdad International Airport, and it is a gateway to the future of Iraq," Brigadier General Vincent Brooks told a press briefing at Centcom's forward base here in Qatar.

Like much of Iraq's infrastructure, the airport was named after President Saddam Hussein, whose regime the invading US-British coalition has vowed to overthrow.
