Hezbollah fires on Israeli warplanes violating Lebanon airspace
TYRE, Lebanon (AFP) May 22, 2003
The radical Shiite Muslim Hezbollah movement said Thursday it had opened fire with anti-aircraft guns from southern Lebanon on Israeli warplanes overflying the area.

The "enemy planes" were overflying the eastern sector of south Lebanon, the movement said.

Lebanese police confirmed the report.

Hezbollah fire has never hit any Israeli planes, but forces them to fly at higher altitudes.

UN forces in Lebanon have repeatedly called on Israel to end its frequent violations of Lebanese airspace.
