"One soldier died from his wounds from an attack by an improvised explosive device that happened on July 1," Corporal Todd Pruden said.
"He was a 352 Civil Affairs Command soldier," said Pruden, who did not wish to reveal the identity of the slain soldier "before the notification of next of kin."
Pruden said two other soldiers were wounded in the attack which he said took place "on highway eight, which I believe is on the airport road," south of Baghdad.
He denied reports that other US soldiers were killed on Tuesday, saying only three were wounded by an attack on their convoy in Baghdad carried out with another "improvised explosive device."
"So far, we have no reports of any attacks overnight or Wednesday morning," he added.
US-led coalition forces occupying Iraq are facing a growing number of attacks, with at least 22 US and six British soldiers killed since May 1, when US President George W. Bush declared the war to oust Saddam Hussein's regime over.
