Colombia justice calls top FARC leader Manuel Marulanda to face drug charges
BOGOTA (AFP) Jul 04, 2003
Colombia's top prosecutor called Thursday for rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) founder Manuel Marulanda and guerrilla leaders to face drug trafficking charges.

Along with Marulanda, also known as 'Tirofijo' ('Sureshot'), justice sources named FARC leaders Jorge Briceno and German Briceno, his brother, and other rebel leaders, alleging they conspired to commit crimes relating to drug trafficking.

It is the first time an investigating organization has charged Marulanda with drug trafficking. The founder of FARC, now in his 70s, is facing other charges including uprising, homicide, kidnapping and extortion, and robbery.
