Israeli army chief of staff begins visit to US
JERUSALEM (AFP) Jul 13, 2003
 The Israeli army's chief of staff General Moshe Yaalon was beginning a week-long visit to the United States on Sunday, a statement said.

"Yaalon will visit military bases and meet with government leaders, heads of the defense establishment and senior members of the US military," the statement announced.

"In addition, the Chief of Staff will meet with representatives of Jewish organizations in the United States."

Yaalon's visit follows an invitation from the Chairman of the Joint US Chiefs of Staff, General Richard Myers.

The United States is Israel's chief ally and gives the Jewish state hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military aid each year.
