Baluchistan police inspector general Shoaib Suddle called the raid "one of the biggest hauls" of illicit arms and ammunition, featuring 195 Russian-made rockets, three 75-mm recoil-less guns, two 20-mm guns, three anti-aircraf guns and thousands of rounds of various calibre.
Suddle said the early morning raid in Killi Turkman village of Mastung district, some 30 kilometres (18 miles) south of Quetta, also netted 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of hashish. The owner of the house where the weapons and drugs were stashed was also arrested.
"It is believed that this huge cache of heavy arms was smuggled into Pakistan from Afghanistan for terrorist activities," he said.
Special teams have been deployed to interrogate the detainee and unearth the alleged "terrorist network" engaged in the weapons smuggling, Suddle added.
The seizure comes just three weeks after a suicide attack on a Shiite mosque in the provincial capital Quetta that left 48 worshippers dead.
Suddle said Wednesday's raid was part of the investigation into the July 4 mosque massacre.
